Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to Speak at National Press Club, Oct. 17
After he retired from his playing career, Abdul-Jabbar has become a successful author, with books on African-American history and graphic novels to his credit. His latest work, Writings on the Wall: Searching for a New Equality Beyond Black and White, was published in August.
Abdul-Jabbar has become one of the most influential black thinkers in America. He is a regular contributor to the Washington Post and Time Magazine.
Abdul-Jabbar is also chairman of the Skyhook Foundation – named for his signature hook shot – whose mission is to bring educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math to low-income communities using outdoor and environmental education.
The Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session, ending at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchase by going to the following link. The cost of luncheon admission is $24 for National Press Club members and $38 for non-members. Tickets must be purchased at time of reservation.
