MILWAUKEE —
12 News’ Sports Director Dan Needles talks one-on-one with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar about the Bucks’ 2019 playoff chances. (Transcript below)
DN: IT PROBABLY DOESN’T SEEM LIKE 48 YEARS AGO THEY WON A TITLE. WHAT STANDS OUT MOST FROM THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON OR WINNING THAT CHAMPIONSHIP?
KAJ: IT’S HARD TO RELATE TO THE WAY THE LEAGUE WAS THEN AND THE WAY THAT THE LEAGUE IS NOW. THEY’RE ONLY WHAT 12/14 TEAMS. YOU KNOW WHEN WE PLAYED IT WAS A LITTLE BIT MORE COMPACT AND THE STYLE OF PLAY WAS SO MUCH DIFFERENT.
DN: COULD THIS BE A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM EVEN THOUGH THIS GROUP HAS NEVER WON A PLAYOFF SERIES?
KAJ: I WOULD ABSOLUTELY HOLD THEM UP TO BE THE FRONTRUNNERS TO WIN BECAUSE THEY WERE CONSISTENT ALL SEASON. HOW MANY TIMES DID THEY LOSE MORE THAN ONE GAME IN ROW? (DN: ONCE.) OK, YOU SEE, SO, THAT SHOWS ME THIS IS A TEAM WITH FOCUS AND SOME DETERMINATION AND THEY WANT TO WIN AND THEY’VE REALLY EMBRACED THE NEW WAY THAT THE GAME IS PLAYED NOW.
