Skyhook Foundation
I have decided to open up the Skyhook Foundation to improve peoples lives through sports and education because my life could not have been what it is without sports and education. It started when I was in grade school and I had the opportunity to play basketball on the streets of Manhattan. I think organized sports play a key role in helping children learn the values of discipline and teamwork. The values that my parents tried to instill in me were very much reinforced by what I was taught on the court. And I have maintained friendships from that time in my life to this day. Education also was a key value that my parents emphasized as I grew up. So I am hoping that the Skyhook Foundation will continue to spread this very valuable message and that I can aid scholars in their efforts.

Kareem,
It was a pleasure meeting you at the NYC Basketball Hall of Fame Dinner on 9/24/09. Congratulations on the launch of the Skyhook Foundation, and I hope to collaborate with you in the future on advocating for the cause of the “struggling student athlete” in our inner cities.

Mr. Jabbar: I met you at a Buffalo Soldiers presentation at Macy’s some years ago with my son. You were kind enough to take pictures with us, and although the camera malfunctioned and we never saw them, my son and I have vivid memories of you. What an inspiration. He is now in high school and has high hopes of becoming a star basketball player (he’s 6’4 @ 14), so I am thrilled to hear about your foundation (on Jeopardy tonight) and wish you the best. Great job on Jeopardy!! So proud of you and wish you much continued success.

Hello Kareem,
I am the the son of Grace Kinzer, close friends with your Mom and Pop. I remember the good old days of playing ball and aspiring to become a pro ball player also. I remember you coming to our house in Jamaica, Queens and your Mom coming to one of my summer league ball games and High School Graduation. I am very proud of you and having known your family. I am also trying to revieve and repair my Mother,s place – Camp Radalbek( special ed- handicapped camp for NY kids). I am trying to repair the place and continue her legacy of helping the community and people with special needs. However, I need to form an alliance with a charity group and come up with some ideas to make use of the 107 acres with (2) cabins , reisdential building and dining hall/education building. If you have time, as I know you are very busy now, I would like to discuss some options and get your input. I look forward to your reply and my mother ( 83 yrs old now) will be thrilled. Take care

I saw you on Jeopardy and am impressed with your goal. I am very concerned about my 14 year old grandson, Chad. He is basically a good kid, but with no father figure in the picture. He is very involved in the sports field, basketball being his biggest focus. He just doesn’t quite get that in order to succeed in a sport that he loves, he needs to also improve his grades and study habits as well as his general attitude that sports alone will get him anywhere in life. I would be so appreciative if you could somehow find the time to contact him personally about the necessity of being a well rounded person in order to succeed in any endeavor. He would really listen to and take heed in anything you could impart to him. Thank you so much for your time.
Thank you,
Jan McNown

Hello Mr.Kareem,
ha ha! I have a lot of your NBA games in video tapes and dvds and i try to make better my hook shot. I have to make a question to you…
I am from Greece , 23 years old but i l love basketball and especially old time basketball. You are my favorite player since 1998 when you came in my country to Halkidiki and i saw some of your games on TV. I always played center at my school because i was the tallest person in my classroom. I always use the skyhook when i play basketball and my friends tell me ”Kareem”
Who is the most long skyhook you have made? How many feet? And if you remember the game…
Thaks a lot for your time to read my message , sorry for my bad english and good luck on your personal adventure….
I am looking forward to your replay
Thank you Mr. Kareem
